It's worth noting that if you build against unstable, your packages
won't get into testing until all their dependencies also get into
testing. At the moment, this seems to include libc6 and the X
libraries.
Hopefully this won't be as much of an issue as testing starts to catch
up

appears as an upgrade, not so that development packages should depend
on the older package. libgnome-dev depends on libgtk1.2-dev, so it
should be safe to go with that.

A very simple solution would to create a symlink from

The best way to do this (IMO) would be to use diversions. See
`/usr/sbin/dpkg-divert --help', or look for a
postinst that currently uses dpkg-divert, like ssltelnet
