I am using Debian Live on USB, with an ext2 partition for persistence.
I get frequent filesystem corruption. I've used 3 different USB sticks,
but I still get these problems.
Have others on this list experienced this kind of thing, or am I just
using crummy hardware?

using broken proxies (apt-cacher*, apt-proxy, etc) is horribly broken
and not supported, either use a real proxy (squid) or create a local mirror.
