the ALT, STRG or F(1-6) keys, the keyboard signals show up correctly -
this is what i would expect, as the keyboard works under X11.

It would seem you haven't compile ISA into your kernel.
I forgot to do it myself, and got the same messages you have.
Go back, recompile your kernel with ISA support, and you should be fine.
This problem is mentioned in the PCMCIA-HOWTO.

The machine has the capability of booting off a variety of media (I put
the internal HD on the end), but will not boot off my USB stick or USB HD.

that said, this is all quite tricky, and I've found that it may be much
simpler - and work better - to simply run the testing (lenny) distribution
on a MacBook. The power management seems to automatically function that
way. You may need to install the 2.6.22 kernel from unstable, though, using
apt-pinning (no need to build from source on testing).

I have that Xircom combo card, and I can bully the ethernet part
into working, but I'm still having fits with the modem. Although it
seems to configure as ttyS1, stty gives an i/o error, and even
poking it with minicom seems to have no effect. Any pointers?

I did make sure that glibc21 was the right set of binaries and
downloaded them.
It is at this point that things go badly awry. I had a logic failure on
the structure of my saved files - thinking that the subdirectories were
what was

available in kernel < 2.2.18. So they put this stuff in k_compat.h
Hower, since kernel 2.2.18pre21 this stuff was also available
in the 2.2.x-series. So, either you edit k_compat.h or
fetch some new pcmcia-source which already has this corrected.

One annoying um, feature, of the dell laptop, is the ability to shut down
immediately upon pressing the power button. I have not found anything on

upgrading to 4.1.0, I now have crud all over my text console when I either

Can anybody suggest a way to get back Win98 on /dev/hda1 and, more to
the point, suggest a way to be able to boot /dev/ha1, /dev/hda5 and
/dev/hda2?

I saved X11R6 to /usr/oldx and /etc/X11 to /home/tim olde11.
I did make sure that glibc21 was the right set of binaries and
downloaded them.
It is at this point that things go badly awry. I had a logic failure on
the structure of my saved files - thinking that the subdirectories were
what
es (like wait_queue), not
available in kernel < 2.2.18. So they put this stuff in k_compat.h
Hower, since kernel 2.2.18pre21 this stuff was also available
in the 2.2.x-series. So, either you edit k_compat.h or
fetch some new pcmcia-source which already has this corrected.

Unless you want to get turned off by optoffline, you should
disable dhcpd, since you potentially could be answering requests
for other cable modems. What you want is pump, which is the client
that will get your address.

I found that the xircom_tulip_cb module is needed for my card, as opposed
to tulip_cb, and so added

I would hope to rescue the mail.
Naturally I'm hoping that you guys will be able to help me rescue this
mess.
