Has anyone used komnibook under Debian, if so is there a .deb for it
anywhere. It does not seem to be part of the regular tree, and
apt-get.org could not find one, but I thought I would ask.

working i downloaded to newest driver from ati.com.. for xfree 4.3.0...
driver version is 3.11.1
i followed the instructions of several how-tos and the driver loads and
when i start kdm and log in it all works...

I would suggest you to urge ATI to release a driver under the GPL.
Regarding your current issue, I won't and can't help you. I have the same
problem, but I refuse to install anything binary-only, and I urge you to do
the same.
