compiling a new kernel with the appropriate modules - it was indeed very
easy. as carlos said, no downloads from the ati page were necessary.
for the archive : a document that describes how to set up the thinkpad
r51 under debi
I think it could be a good thing if someone buying a new laptop could
simply do
apt-get install laptopbrand-laptopserie
and then obtain in /usr/share/doc/laptopbrand-laptopserie all needed
documentation on how to configure his laptop, necessary kernel patches,
a working .config, a working XF86Confi
I like the idea and would be willing to contribute. I have access to a
few laptops. I am relatively new to debian packaging though. I have
created some basic configuration packages.

and laptopbrand-laptopseries. And "maybe" (just a thought) have say,
laptop-common install a set of packages common to all laptops and
laptopbrand-laptopseries install a set of packages specific for that
brand and series as

my idea was about a documentation-only package, something like
doc-linux-* packages, a collection of documents and links to webpages
useful for the owner of a certain laptop

As a long-time laptop Linux user, being able to apt-get
a package of handy hints and pointers to URLs would have
been a great time and effort saver. Yes, I was able to
find a lot of what I needed with google; if someone had
