If you go to a terminal and view the file (as root) /var/log/syslog and
maybe running the command "dmesg" you may find the log of the error

my IBM thinkpad 560 runs woody r1 quite nice,
but hdparm -d1 /dev/hda says that dma-mode
isnt possible.
It seems the kernel (2.4.18-bf) doesnt support
the chipset (Intel) to use dma?
