Hi all,
I've got a Dell Inspiron 7500 running an up-to-date Debian-testing
system. I can't get the modem function of my Xircom Cardbus RBEM56G
10/100+Modem 56 PCMCIA card working. Network has always worked, but I've
never seen any evidence that the modem is working, based on three
things:
1) runn

I have apm + apmd installed on my notebook. I can successfully "apm -s"
from command line and resume by pressing the power on button.
I want the system to automatically suspend when x minutes of battery
time remain.
I read the man for apmd and apm but still couldn't figure
this one out. I did

Has anyone had any luck getting the sound to work on a Gateway Solo 2500?
The chipset is a NeoMagic MagicWave 3DX. I checked the sound how-to and
discovered that this chipset is not reported as being supported. I also
searched through the mail list archives, but did not find any mention of

Dear All
I'm running Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 on an IBM Thinkpad A31p.
X is in VESA mode, as the Thinkpad has unsupported Radeon video.
If I'm in X (Gnome) and I'm idle for a while (10 mins?) X crashes. The
error messages seem to be to do with trying to run a screensaver. Now,
I have xscreensav
So I got a new laptop recently (the aforementioned Sotec 3120x, howto will
be coming in a bit time permitting) and I was going around setting
everything up and optimizing - as one is want to do.
I got dvd playback working - the audio would have to resync every couple
of seconds - so I used hdparm
Hi Ivan,

Mobility 7500 Radeon? You will most surely need XFree 4.2.x, by now
finally available in in unstable (and testing? dunno). I've been using an
install from binaries from XFree86.org - running fine for months now.

Hi All.
I haven't found a great deal of help on this subject after Googling for
a while. I've installed a base of Woody on a larger hard drive in my
Thinkpad 760ED. The base install with kernel 2.2.20 and the pcmcia-cs
modules worked flawlessly as it always had under Potato.
Right after install

try a custom kernel first (frankly, i'd recomend this for most laptop
users anyway).

Dear Ivan !
Late in the night, I just couldn't withstand the joke !
I know it's a nasty one. Sorry.
Beside that impudent workaround, I've got no idea.
If it's possibly a problem with Gnome, you might check with KDE or
windowmanager solely.
If it's a failure from X, it would be useful to post

I have compiled kernel 2.4.20 on Sid several times and never had pcmcia
work. I haven't made any serious attempt at diagnosing this, but it does
seem to be a problem with that versison of the kernel.
