I have an A40-211 [1] with almost exactly the same problems. I've kind of
given up to get this working with XFree86, but have good hopes for X.Org.
The problem may be that also a kernel patch will be required, but well,
will have to wait and see.
Do you think it is an X-Window issue?

I am using Debian Sarge and kernel 2.6.10 on my Toshiba Satellite
A50-106 laptop.
Linux works really well on this machine with one notable exception...
toggling display internal LCD<->external LCD/CRT.
I use fnfx (fnfxd-0.3-5 DEB package) for this purpose. Unfortunately
toshset did not wo
