I have an A40-211 [1] with almost exactly the same problems. I've kind of given up to get this working with XFree86, but have good hopes for X.Org. The problem may be that also a kernel patch will be required, but well, will have to wait and see.
Do you think it is an X-Window issue? Do you know if X.org is coming into Debian in near future?
I know it is possible to compile X.org by myself, but I would rather wait for DEB packages.
I am not eager on compiling most of my X-Window appplications from scratch.
