Removing apmd from my system seems to have fixed the hanging problem.
There is much in the past few emails that I need to digest (and I want to

You're running a 2.4 kernel. Pavel Machek, who is at least partially -
probably mostly - responsible for S3/S4 support for ACPI, has stated
that it will never be possibl

Are you using the latest acpi kernel patches? The version of acpi
included with most kernels is very old.
