I am having very similar problems with a Toshiba 4030CDS. It
only comes on for a second, you can hear the hard disc start then turns itself
off. Did you manage to fix your problem?

I replaced the RTC battery with a battery from that battery-only
place. Its part number is ML2430-WR.

It is a silver, disc battery enclosed in a plastic encasing that
presses two leads up tight against the battery. This battery is
located under the top circuit

So far, I have not had any luck booting this machine from the
slink rescue disks. I have tried the following:

resc1440.bin
resc1440-safe.bin
2.1.9-1999-03-03
resc1440.bin
