i am running sarge on a dell latitude 5100. window-manager is
"wmaker".

the sound is working.
the steps i took are the following:
. use 2.4.18 kernel with sound enabled, but no compiled-in cards.
. install _not_ debian-'sarge'-provided alsa packages, but the latest
stable versions from www.alsa-project.org (i.e. version 0.9.2),
including 'alsa-drivers', 'alsa-li

i am having trouble getting the sound to work on a dell inspiron 5100
laptop. i am running debian 'sarge' and a 2.4.18 kernel. 'lspci' tells
me (amongst other things):
