search for your Thinkpad model revealed 3 how-tos, which should be
tasty reading (although some may be redhat-specific, you may be able
to glean information about what hardawre you have and which drivers to
load =) )
Good luck!

hing I'll need to
reboot for is Diablo II ;)
The first "upgrade" I'd suggest is to replace the stock 64MB ram with 256MB
- I got mine from http://www.crucial.com (which I believe is run by Micron),
and it's made all the difference in the world. Before, it was a bit pokey -
now it flies.

found a fix for that yet (mainly because I don't visit that many
flash-required sites ;P )
Hopefully this will help, or at least point you in the right direction. One
of these days I'll get around to trying ALSA out =)

your dock's ethernet
o brings up the dock's ethernet connection
(yes, I know that's probably oversimplifying things - I don't have a docking
station for my vaio yet, so I'm sortof flying blind here - hopefully this
suggestion might get things moving in the right direction)

mber off the top of my head if the XG29 is Neomagic or ATI based -
either way, it shouldn't take too much doing to get going, as long as you
can post the specifics.
