I purchased a USB 2.0 hdd enclosure along with a 80GB toshiba laptop
harddrive. I plan on using this USB HDD for storing large media files. I
also plan on using this enclosure to facilitate the transfer of files
between my laptop and other PC's.
Which file system would be best suitable

I take it that you have the ICH6 chipset? In my BIOS their is a legacy mode option for the SATA controller, toggling it might help. I have gotten it to work on my laptop (which uses the ICH6 chipset) by using the ide-generic and ide-disk and ide-cd drivers during the install. Keep in mind that the

Follow the instructions on this page: http://kmuto.jp/debian/hcl/
It should tell you which drivers are needed for you SATA controller,
then edit /etc/mkinitrd/modules and add the modules needed to load the
root fs with the SATA driver. You might want to edit
/etc/mkinitrd/mkinitrd.conf as well. Onc

expert mode in order for the installation to detect my DVD drive and
complete the installation.
