The hdd is on ata1 and the DVD is on ata2, after days of searching I still cannot find any concrete documentation on libata. I know that I could re-compile my kernel with ide-generic and ide-cd support to get the dvd rom working, but I'd rather do without ide support compiled into my kernel :)
