and deactivated KDM before to avoid that arts locks the sound system. When I use aplay or alsaplayer to play an audio file I get no sound output too. I think it is time to talk with the ALSA crew. group, i get an error like: /dev/audio: no such device what's going wrong? could it have to do with shared interrupts? am i missing something? i should add that i have the same problem when using a kernel without built-in sound and loading modules by hand.
