after resetting the BIOS, try the live CDs again. If they still
give you issues, your hardware is almost certainly broken (of course,
"broken" may mean anything, from just a connector loose somewhere, to
serious hardware breakdowns).

they may well have forgotten to re-attach the cables (happened to me
with the mic cable once). Does the front audio panel work when you
start the machine with a live CD, such as Ubuntu 10.4 or the newest
Fedora/OpenSuSE/whatever?

while the microSD form factor is definitely more universal, new
bigger/faster miniSD cards hit the market much before equivalent
microSD cards do. Also, not all card readers will be compatible with
these bigger capacities and higher speeds.

y starts charging as soon as I plug in the AC
adapter. It's true, however, that charging won't take place when the
battery is around 97-100% full. This is, as far as I know, in order to
avoid frequent and short charge cycles which are bad for the batteries.
