now any other solution for suspend-to-RAM to work.
I use vbetool to initialize the graphics card after resume. Although I
do not have a thinkpad you might check it out - it is supposed to work
with a wide range of video cards (vesa compliant).

Yes it is. The reason is I guess that it interferes with the ALSA
drivers, which are prefered. If you want to continue using OSS just take
it out of the hotplug blacklist (in /etc/hotplug).
