I' ve installed Debian Woody on my machine. The identyfied sound chip is an
Intel 82802 wich seems to be the same as the yamaha ac97. I've installed
sndconfig yet, but

I´m running the same system. But I don´t use the original driver. I user
the vesa-driver. try the following:
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
select vesa as your carddriver @ a resolution of 1024x768 dpi
It works on my mashine without any probs...
