Hi, I´m running the same system. But I don´t use the original driver. I user the vesa-driver. try the following:
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 select vesa as your carddriver @ a resolution of 1024x768 dpi It works on my mashine without any probs... good luck! -- Bend down fay, wish is wish ;-)
