I had the same problem with my synaptic touchpad and clicking using
kernel < 2.6.6. With 2.6.7 everything works fine.
@(none???): Why is it important to *put* the mouse *after* the
synaptics?

I had the same problem with my synaptic touchpad and clicking using
kernel < 2.6.6. With 2.6.7 everything works fine.

since the loopback interface is up, and there is an entry for localhost in
/etc/hosts, with 127.0.0.1.
