I managed to get my Realtek AC'97 soundcard working properly, which I
hope is an indication that having an AC'97 soundcard is no longer a
death sentence. I thought that I'd go through what I did to get it
working so that others having problems could find a solution.
I compiled in the OSS --> OSS (

I have a Sony PCG FRV-26 laptop running debian with a 2.4.22
kernel. The display card is ATI Radeon which is only supported by
versions of XFree86 4.3 and after. Currently, I have Xfree86 4.2.1 that
comes with the testing versions(i think!) and use the vesa driver for
