For example using sudo, gnome-sudo, gksu, super or any other of these
utilities.
Ctrl+Alt+Del in the console is very nice, too.

Are they a local user?
If so, try this in your /etc/inittab

I have never looked into this before, but is there a way that I (just a
joeblow user) can shutdown my system without having to become root first?
I looked at man for shutdown, there isthe -a option. I added my user to the

I have a HP Omnibook XE3 GF which also uses the i830 chipset.
The i830 is not natively supported with acceleration by XFree86 prior to
version 4.2. Debian currently ships with 4.1, so you won't have
accelerated support, but you can use the frame
Hello Everyone,
I've been trying to install linux on my Dell Inspiron 2600. I
understand that the problems I am having are caused by the 830
graphics card embedded in the i830 chipset. I've seen a post on
'linux-laptop.net' describing how to work around this problem Red Hat
7.3 with a patch and

Hmm... i would like that very much, too...
Did you try the driver from mobilix?
See the mailing list archives, and

No, but galeon has a memory cache... like almost every graphical
browser. Default is at least 5 MB, maybe 10 MB...
Then plugins get loaded an

Hi Charbel,
thanks very much for the detailed step by step guide. Together with
the information of Mattia I have been able to do almost all of the
described tasks. There is just one thing which I didn't get done
properly. I am talking about the finger crossing thing. Hmmh. That
didn't work out.

This is not quite correct. Galeon uses a real GTK interface, not an XUL
skin for mozi
Hi,
AFAIK Crusoe is designed to run at low speed until the system asks for full
power (eg: while doing nothing run at low speed to maximize battery life and
minimize heating, while doing hard work switch to full speed to maximize
performance).
