Sorry, if this is a FAQ, but I couldn't find with a quick look. My debian testing has X 4.1.0.1 and fades white switching from console back to X. SuSE uses 4.0.3 and is o.k. Only difference I found was : in Suse.xfree.log: (II) Open APM successful (II) Module ABI versions: XFree86 ANSI
