i had more or less the same problem with my built-in lucent modem on my
tp570 with the kernels greater then 2.2.14. and now i can also use the
modem without that damn ac and without crash.

hi can you tell me the specifics of this model..like the type of modem, sound
card, video drivers..etc..thanks.
the problem is that the 2.2.x kernels doesn't support pcmcia. so you
have to install the base system with the driver that you will be able to
use the pcmcia.
the rescue, root, driver 1,2,3, base 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,..
are avaible under dists/potato/main/disks-/current/images-.../

only work when i used the laptop in the docking station. if i used
it standalone, playing samples resulted only in white noise.
now i've turned off "pci bus power management" in the bio
as far as i know it is posible to install the potato from a pcmcia
device. BUT the pcmcia isn't integrated into the kernel. for that reason
