I've just tested two kernels from debian backports for Buster, namely
linux-image-5.10.0-0.bpo.5-686_5.10.24-1~bpo10+1_i386 (non-pae) and
linux-image-5.10.0-0.bpo.5-686-pae_5.10.24-1~bpo10+1_i386 (pae).
I've used the very same laptop for this test, literally not a single

In the stretch kernel ASLR mechanism got enabled (kernel option
CONFIG_RANDOMIZE_BASE), which conflicts with the hibernatio
