Based on this new log, it looks like you had dracut installed, and
dracut doesn't rebuild the initramfs correctly when you upgrade the
kernel.
I'll reassign this to dracut. I suggest that you upgrade
initramfs-tools and remove dracut for now.

Well, it’s Debian Stable, with the following changes:
Newer kernel from backports (2.6.38 and now 2.6.39)
Newer transmission-daemon from experimental (2.32)
