When I switched away from the proprietary Nvidia driver, the problem
disappeared (two successful hibernate/resume cycles in a row). So it
looks like the issue is probably on Nvidia's side. I haven't found
anything else on the net about this yet, though.

This doesn't address the "why do version numbers jump around while
bisecting?" question[1]. Not sure how to address it briefly;
hopefully this is a good enough start without it.

Since the beginning, the "common tasks" chapter has contained a
mixture of tabs and spaces with no consistent rule to choose between
them. Stick to spaces so the source looks reasonable when viewed with
an unusual tab width.
Also remove some trailing spaces at the ends of lines.

The bug seems to be fixed in current stable. After fast-forward upgrade from
2.6.32-30 to 2.6.32-34squeeze1, the trip points have remained exactly the same
(see previous email).
