Is there a problem with the idea of "turn off APIC timer before ACPI
initialization and then turn back on after ACPI initialization
finishes"? This is exactly what the tiny patch I've sent does. I would
agree that 'nolapic' boot param "solves" the problem, but IMHO the
idea above is clearer and wor

Hi,
kernel-package does not install a build link in kernel-header
packages; instead, kernel-image, which owns the dir, and the build
link, handles it during post install. Whatever is creating the build
link in header packages needs to stop, and use the ker

Ok I verified that:
* This issue is yet valid for current 2.6.8 with acpi=on
* It's valid for 2.4 series up to 2.4.27 with acpi=on
* Patch proposed in 2.6.8 does not solve the issue, so it can be removed.
The only workaround in all cases is the 'nolapic' boot param.

Hello
I noticed that the MAGIC-SYSRQ feature is not compiled in in all kernels
although there were requests for it on this mailing list and in the BTS.
Is there any reason against it?
This feature is especially on servers very useful to shut down the
system with synced and unmounted partitions e

Its definately just the 64bit number returned by BLKGETSIZE64.
The size returned by BLKGETSIZE is correct (eg is the number of sectors
for the device). As the code to return the size in the second case is
so similar its got to be something really daft causing the problem.
