This is probably caused by new xfree packages updating your
XF86Config-4...
Try running "dpkg-rec

I had some mouse problems recently... see if you have the same symptoms.
Start in a different getty, then switch to getty 7. Don't move your mouse at
all after switching for a second or 2... then move it. It should work right.
Now try that again and move your mouse right away after switching

this happend to me few times. When I apt-get upgrade, it makes me to
reconfigure my mouse. Whatever I did it always turned wrong. Mouse get
out of controll in Login menu. I ran xf86config and now I am able to use
the mouse, but tim to time it goes wild and clicks whereever it wants.
