that need internet connectivity (e.g. weather applets)? If so try
removing them and see if it helps.

I think that's done the trick -- I got a CDROM icon in a sane amount of
time and was able to mount, unmount and eject the CD. In fact I think
the icon appeared on the desktop quicker than under OSX:-)
By default DMA was off for the CD.

To what? -- I have a rather similar problem on Ubuntu with an iBook.

Best to do this with "dpkg-reconfigure xdm", or just uninstall gdm.

nstall a
particular list of KDE packages one of which is kvim. Therefore if you
want "all of KDE except kvim" then you have 2 options (1) Install all
the component parts manually or (2) install KDE and let it drag
everything in and then remove kvim (which will remove the "
on the KDE ftp site.
Except that half the packages (more or less) are in the incoming
directory rather than pool so that apt-get won't work.

It appears that about half of the woody debs for KDE3.2 on ftp.kde.org
and its mirrors are in Incoming and not in the pool. Does anybody know
why and what to do about it?

(I forget which way round the dependency is, but you may or may not also
need libogg). This looks like a missing dependency in the arts packages.

According to kde-devel, the 3.1-final tarballs were released to packagers
today. So barring fat
