Should KDE packages build depend on libpng2-dev?
Also since kdelibs3 depends on libpng2, then shouldn't kdelibs-dev
depend on libpng2-dev?

after a recent apt-get upgrade I find that KNode will not open, the cursor
flashes as if it is starting up but it never appears.
I'm using Woody, updated yesterday, so if this is liable to be part of the

That sounds wrong.
libpng3 is not binary compatible with libpng2.

I got curious about realplayer for linux. Didn't know it existed and I posted
what I thought was the problem earlier this morning. I tried that and it
didn't work, but I wasn't far off.
Here's what I did to get it to work (after scan for plugins):
