PHP4 and mail()

Hi, There is a known problem with the current stable php4 package when using mail() with an external mail server (mail server is not on the same machine as the webserver). Nothing happens, no errors, no mail sent, nothing. I saw a bug posted to b.d.o, but something tells me this is going to take
