Hi,
I have POTATO firewall which controls UPS status and want
to shutdown all machines on power failure.
I use UPSD in client mode for UN*X workstations but I also
have one running M$Win95...
Any ideas how can I shutdown Windows95 remotely from Linux ?
Best regards,
Piotr Tarnowski

Did you consider using proftpd ? I had the exact same issue and never
figured it out. Proftpd does all I ever needed.

All appropriate hosts?? Seeing as I plan on hitting this box from many
different places (it's going to be public), and even our local machines total
more than 300 boxes, that's not really an option... :-)

To follow up my own email, proftp has the exact same problem. Any other
ideas?

It's probably a DNS issue. If your IP doesn't resolve to anything, then the
server might just wait for the dns lookup to timeout

Sooo.. how do I fix it? I assume I am going to run into this problem quite
often, because a lot of dial-up users, as well as others don't have a
resolvable IP, and I can't fix their end. I would have no problem turning
off reverse-dns lookups system-wide (dont' see the need) but I don't know
