Why is this grave? Error is self-explainatory, and since it is the
sistem that lacks something, it's not squid fault.
If you don't want to add the right line to /etc/hosts, you can uncomment
visible_hostname in /etc/squid/squid.conf.

to load. On another occasion, a Wikipedia article was seriously
corrupted. Pages which load many style sheets, little images,
javascript, etc seem to be most succeptable to this bug.

this bug is due to a move of configuration file from the /etc/squid to the
/etc/sarg directory.
Please excuse my ignorance. Evidently dpkg doesn't carry information on moved
config files. Is there any way to avoid that prompt while still keeping the
move?

I’ll push the patch upstream but since it has already moved to 1.0.0 with
different autoconf script I don’t see the chance for it to be applied.

I cannot reproduce this bug, can you please check the debhelper version on the
box? Since sarg uses debhelper for all of its building, this should definitely
be a debhelper bug, not a sarg one.
