I initially encountered the bug too. After rebuilding Gnucash against
current libs, it seems to work again. I suspect some library was
upgraded and broke things.

You did obviously run aMule with sudo at some point, as aMule can't do
priviledge escalation to change your files to root ownership.

Hmm, in that case it is likely to be the '--with-gl' flag causing this
then as (apart from the version upgrade) that was the only appreciable
build difference.
If you run from the command line what, if any, output do you get?
