Hello,
First, I have no relation to Fedora, but I write here because of this bug in

Hello,
First, I have no relation to Fedora, but I write here because of this
bug in Debian:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=732796
Would you guys at Fedora feel like it's time to get rid of the symlink
/bin/open to make space for
xdg-open (for fdo fans) or gopen/op
Hello!
It seems (atleast) Fedora also links open -> openvt, see:
http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/kbd.git/tree/kbd.spec?id=d6e2ea33#n129
I think it would be a good idea to coordinate with other distributions
to also get rid of the link at roughly the same time if we're going to
do this.

Hi again,
so far there has been only one answer to my question on debian-devel about
recycli
Hello kbd maintainers, xdg-utils maintainers and everybody,
The “kbd” package ships a symbolic link from /bin/open to /bin/openvt.
“openvt” is used to start a program on a new virtual terminal, and according to
its manual page, it has been renamed from “open” at the end of the XXth
century. The
Package: kbd
Version: 1.15.5-1
Severity: wishlist
Dear Maintainer,
This package uses open(1).
This usage is neither standard (in terms of LSB and POSIX) nor popular.
The unpopularity can be seen as BusyBox implements openvt(1) only [1]
while toybox
has no plan for openvt(1) or open(1) [2].
