Sorry for my late followup. I've gone ahead and dropped the open symlink in debian now and the new package version[1] of kbd[2] is already migrated to testing/buster[3]. This change will thus be part of the upcoming Buster release of debian. Would be happy if you also went ahead and dropped it on the Fedora side so we do this change at roughly the same time. If you have contacts at some other distribution which also carries the symlink, please do ask them to also drop it.
