Hi,
I downgraded my Grub to the version from Unstable (I don't even know why
I had the one from Experimental installed) and both problems (text and
slowness) went away.
When I get the time and courage I'll try the Grub version from upstream
(I guess that's the one you are referring to).

Hi,
removing the lines does not change anything.
I am assuming that although grub.cfg is automatically generated, it is
enough to modify it by hand, without running anything else (and that
grub somehow reads grub.cfg from my reiser partition).
