Hi,

to my best knowledge, I did nothing to my grub configuration. It should be all standard Debian Unstable, except for adding those other OSes in the list.

Hi,

removing the lines does not change anything.

Where did you get your theme from?
Using grub bazaar trunk, your grub.cfg,
http://retro.apebox.org/grubthemes/directhex-grub-themes-00000001.tar.gz
and unifont.pf2 with SHA-256:
b445b7c283fcf6ff1b9df09329c7eeb177455aca1af670bdc56ed6cfaa0c4f8c I was
unable to reproduce this problem

I am assuming that although grub.cfg is automatically generated, it is
enough to modify it by hand, without running anything else (and that
grub somehow reads grub.cfg from my reiser partition).

Thank you,
Alex

I suspect it's a problem with fonts. Can you try removing
loadfont /boot/grub/dejavu_sans_10.pf2
loadfont /boot/grub/dejavu_sans_12.pf2
loadfont /boot/grub/dejavu_sans_bold_14.pf2
lines from grub.cfg?
