This bug was originally filed at serious severity because it caused a build
failure in the mumble package. The mumble package, which is the sole
reverse-build-dependency of zeroc-ice, has since worked around this issue by
hard-coding use of gcc-4.6 while building.
Here is the cherry-pick of the fix applied in ubuntu, ready to be
uploaded as NMU.
It's a git-am patch against current master, also pushed as nmu-685604 head.

If you apply the multarchi27.diff patch in bug #695958, then this patch to
virtualenv will do the trick.
Ignore the earlier two python-virtualenv patches.

As this bug potentially causes FTBFS of other source packages, I am
raising the severity to RC.
Also this bug is a regression introduced in:

The problem with Path MTU Discovery is that if nobody gives an
error that the packet should be smaller, it will keep re-transmitting
the IP packet with the same size, and will not split it up. The
other side will not see any of your data. The connection will
work until you send this big data

Thank you my consciousness ;)
Just a note: this issue is very unlikely to hit anyone since
is not used by default in any shipped action file
and it was only recently introduced so I doubt it was adopted by more
than a handful deployments.
But indeed -- wheezy should get a patched version.
