Why does anyone need to read megabytes of urandom? If it really
is random, then 16 bytes should be enough.

nd with debian-bsd. It's not the
existing debian packages that need to be ported, they should
essentially work as is. This is approach that Marcus Brinkmann
is taking with debian-hurd.
Only the essential BSD tools like disklabel, newfs, fsck, etc need
to be packaged as debian packages, at fir
ed" BSD tools anymore.)
I am personally interested in using FreeBSD as the base, so I have
no particular interest in the OpenBSD `audited' tools.

packaged on Debian.
An autobuilder will do most of the work in this area.
What's needed is a `base' debian-bsd system. The basic (/bin,
/sbin) *BSD binaries is what is needed to be packaged the Debian
way.

upgrading both userland and base
system packages on your new Debian/GNU Linux (potato) system. Apt
method in dselect does it all for you! And you haven't had to
compile anything.
You must try it, and live with it for a wh
ystem (newfs, fdisk, disklabel, fsck.ufs, various console
utilities, sysinit scripts, etc) being composed of debian
packages.
