(sorry for the rant, but i see no other way to getting things done
involving the NEW packages and ftp-masters, except a week or two of
active public ranting. Waiting clearly doesn't bring a thing, unless
indefinite waiting is meant, and they don't respond to email).

s, i am sick of the
current situation.
And even worse, the current powerpc kernel still contains the local root

Also, a powerpc kernel upgrade may be needed for newer apple hardware,
maybe based on the -benh tree. Or maybe even an option for 2.6 kernels
for the G5 based pmacs ?
Finally, cdrom initrd is too big for chrp/chrp-rs6k builtin initrd.
netboot works fine tough.

In any case, we need to check the new apple hardware and see if the

How much work would be needed to have this feature of ntfstools be

This is not ontopic in debian-boot, but there have been some information
about this on debian-powerpc, go look at the mailing lists archives of
it.
Friendly,
Sven
means that it is possible to boot with bootx on oldworld, and
that the default -powerpc-small that was selected in kernel-installer
is probably not the right solution. A "kernel to use" kind of question
might be welcome, and maybe there could also be some kind of
auto-probing for which kernel was booted.
BTW, these kind of things have more their place on the debian-boot
mailing list, so i forward this there.

Anyway, if you manage to know that the testing-proposed-updates stuff
works well, could it be possible to make a base-installer upload to
unstable today still, so non-pmac powerpc kernels can get installed ?

My key is :
709141A4
and it is my debian key, so it is in the debian web of trust, and my
identity has been checked when it was signed.
My phone number i will send you in private, if it is o
onkey, coq, and apparently also somewhere in the dependency chain of
subversion, altough i was not able to confirm this latest one.

Notice that it seems that bootx is capable of booting both the -powerpc
and the -powerpc-small kernels, while miboot is able to boot only the
second.

Maybe a fix for this would be to ask for the removal of kernel-installer
0.47 from unstable (it still remains in testing).
