The JS20 still fails to boot this kernel. The reason being is that you
are building w/ just ppc32 and not building w/ the ppc64 tree.
The JS20 requires hardware support that is only in the ppc64 tree as do
any power5 or power4 box running in LPAR mode.

I think that the analysis of this bug is slightly
wrong. "http://proxy.domain"; does not work in 2nd stage not only
because a port number is missing, but because a trailing slah is
missing.

Nothing has to be done in choose-mirror for seeding base-config
settings.
