When I recently tried potato, it complained about the 4GB harddrive in a
466MHz celeron system (eMachine eTower 466is):
hda: status timeout: status=0xd0 {Busy}
hda: no DRQ after issuing WRITE
ide0: reset success
after disk intensive operations (like booting up). I then swapped disks
with a 400M

* made a d-i boot floppy
* booted up my old 486 with it
* told it I had a ne2000 ethernet card[1], and manually specified the io
base 0x300 and irq 10 since it's not a pnp card[2]
* manually configured the network

We're replacing ae with nano-tiny, If I remember correctly. I imagine we want
to make a udeb out of nano-tiny for debian-installer (boot-floppies too?)

I can boot up on the floppy, get on the net, and anna downloads and
installs a Packages file and at least 1 udeb. Perversely, it
downloads/installs wget-retreiver.udeb first, and since the version in
the archive is broken right now, it doesn't get any further. :-)

The ramdisk-image that comes with potato has the editor ae. But when working
with the serial console (the server has no graphic-card) I get an error with

Thanks for the info. I've dropped out of debian-devel and subscribed to
debian-boot. I've got the stuff downloaded and after a whole lot of
apt-gets (my initial install was rather minimal). I think it's building a
whole lot more than I need.
