Installing Debian 8.1.0 AMD64 on second hard drive and putting grub on that

Tried wheezy and the daily jessie (22-Sep-2014).
Wheezy could not install.
All Jessie's install but hang after selecting debian in grub2.
Ubuntu 14.10 Beta1 installs and runs fine so far. Hooray!
Maybe it's *Ubuntu's* 3.16 kernel?
Or perhaps the lack of loaded firmware (known bug in current jessie
's how the Win is installed.
Will try a wheezy installation next and see what happens.

The trigger appears to be a dev/cciss/c0d0 block device combined with
existing lvm partitions.

hat 2.6.10 is in Debian, I built a new
kernel using make-kpkg --initrd and it installed and booted without any
problems. I don't know what has changed other than the newer kernel, but
the problem seems to have gone away.

It sounds to me as if the path the kernel developers want us to take is
to integrate most knowledge currently in discover and kudzu into
hotplug. All devices present on the system should generate hotplug
events, and the installer can capture those. Hotplug would use udev.

I have not heard of machines that lilo does not work on,

on the results of concatenating and/or overlaying all the pieces.
This scheme is not bulletproof, but I think it is a step in the right
direction.
