I tried to install my basic environment by picking choices from tasksel.
I noticed that it was pulling down a lot more packages than I expected,
so I hit ctrl-c to cancel the download. After this, I was unable to
select a smaller subset of pac

Tasksel should be more granular. I generally just want to install the
GNOME environment. While I don't think that Debian should force a
particular desktop choice on a user, it probably doesn't make much sense
to have both installed.

This is a general wishlist item for the installer, but I wasn't sure
what package to file this against. Please reroute it as needed.
Most of the laptops that I install debian on are single-spindle
sub-notebooks. This generally requires netbooting, as not all of them

I think my guess about MBR damage was a false alarm. (but I've ruined
the evidence by this point).

the XP partition. I restored it in the partitioning tool and that
allowed me to boot into XP again.
