I used:

But I suspect the manual is outdated since the installer gets stuck on
the "Detect and mount CD-ROM" which is not detected.
This should be working or the manual changed?

It's very easy to reproduce, even with virtualbox, the weekly build
testing cd image for amd64 seems to be broken.

"dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration" silently dies,
if no keyboard is attached to the PC. Thats pretty painful,
because the servers are supposed to be connected to a KVM only
