yeah, dash is a painful default (been there done that a few days ago).

That's irrelevant; d-i does not default to ftp.us.debian.org, and it
*does* present cdn.debian.net near the top of the list of choices (but
never as the first choice).

Using GeoMirror [1] (aka cdn.debian.net) as default mirror in the default
installation can save decisions and interaction to who is installing and be a
more automated process.
* Pros:
- 'good' default as it should select a nearby working mirror
- efficient use of Debian mirrors
- less d

Hi,
now that we are at the beginning of a new release cycle, it would probably a
good moment to fix 560038: "please make validating signatures the default,
if /usr/share/keyrings/debian-archive-keyring.gpg is available".
IOW: debootstrap doesn't check signatures on packages by default...
