trying to install sarge-i386-netinst.iso from
http://gluck.debian.org/cdimage/testing/sid_d-i/netinst/i386/20040131/
on a pure SCSI drives me crazy :-]
First, the CD does not boot with standard settings, where KNOPPIX
boots easily. Fiddling around with controller and BIOS settings

As this installation report with serial console failure occurred on
beta1, did you try with the more recent beta2 version of the Debian
Installer ?
This release fixes several issues, so we'd better try with it before
knowing if the bug needs more investigation.

I'd like to just say that I have also experienced this bug. I am trying to
install on a Compaq ProLiant 1600R, and it has a SmartArray 221 controller.

The module descriptions in /usr/share/modconf/eval_C contain escaped double
quotes which are interprited incorrectly at runtime. The attached patch
fixed the problem at runtime by passing the dscriptions though sed. A be
